Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt honored as NASCAR closes 2016

Jimmie Johnson was celebrated for winning his record-tying seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup title Friday night, while Tony Stewart was seen off into retirement and Dale Earnhardt Jr. told his adoring fans he’ll return in 2017. Johnson’s dramatic victory in the year’s final race last month at Homestead moved him into a tie with Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for the most series championships.

NFL notes: Broncos rule Trevor Siemian out against Jaguars

Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian will miss Denver’s game at Jacksonville on Sunday because of his sprained left foot. Siemian had his best game as a pro last week, throwing for 368 yards and three TDs against the Chiefs but was injured on a sack in overtime. Rookie Paxton Lynch will make his second start of the season.

Earl Thomas, Michael Bennett expected back for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to get at least six players back from injury this week, including safety Earl Thomas, defensive end Michael Bennett and center Justin Britt. Also expected back in the lineup for Seattle are cornerback DeShawn Shead, linebacker Mike Morgan and backup running back Troymaine Pope.
