A GRIP ON SPORTS • We know a couple Eastern Washington men’s basketball season ticket holders. They sit down near the court and quietly express their joy in watching their alma mater race past Big Sky Conference foes that once used to consider a stop in Cheney a respite. It may be cold outside but the dish of red-hot revenge must taste better than even the excellent concession-stand popcorn.

Kraken take down Flames to keep hope alive

CALGARY, Alberta — Under the shadow of Friday’s trade deadline, the Kraken were knocked around at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome, particularly their top defensive pairing. Still, Seattle took a 4-2 road win from the Flames, one of the teams ahead of them in the wild-card race.

Gonzaga continues to gain ground in AP rankings, NET and bracket projections

By nearly every measure – NET rankings, Associated Press poll, KenPom, bracket projections – Gonzaga is moving up. The Bulldogs, following impressive West Coast Conference wins over San Francisco and Saint Mary’s, climbed four spots to No. 19 in the latest AP rankings. The regular-season champion Gaels dropped from 17 to 23 after falling to Gonzaga 70-57 on Saturday in Moraga.
