Chivas wins CONCACAF title, beating Toronto on penalty kicks

Mexico’s Chivas beat Toronto FC 4-2 on penalty kicks to win the CONCACAF Champions League and the right to play in the Club’s World Cup for the first time in its history. Toronto got the 2-1 win in the Akron stadium to force the penalty kicks, where the Mexicans scored their four shots while Jonathan Osorio and Michael Bradley missed for Toronto.

Bruins score 4 in 3rd to beat Maple Leafs 7-4 in Game 7

Jake DeBrusk scored his second goal of the game to break a third-period tie, and the Boston Bruins came from behind to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 – again – winning 7-4 on to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Mike Budenholzer out as coach of Atlanta Hawks

UPDATED: Wed., April 25, 2018, 8:37 p.m.

The Atlanta Hawks and coach Mike Budenholzer have mutually agreed to part ways in a move announced by the team in a three-sentence statement. The decision was not totally unexpected as Budenholzer was granted permission to interview with other teams even though he is under contract with the Hawks for two more seasons.

LeBron James’ last-second shot gives Cavs 98-95 win in Game 5

LeBron James hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving Cleveland a 98-95 win in Game 5 over the Indiana Pacers and giving the Cavaliers a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference playoff series. Moments before James’ shot, he blocked Victor Oladipo’s driving layup before hitting another memorable game-winner. The Cavs close out the series with a win in Game 6 on Friday night.

DeMar DeRozan scores 32 points, Raptors beat Wizards in Game 5

DeMar DeRozan scored 32 points, Kyle Lowry had 17 points and 10 assists and the Toronto Raptors beat the Washington Wizards 108-98 in Game 5 of the first-round series. Toronto rebounded after losing Games 3 and 4 in Washington to take a 3-2 series lead back to Washington for Game 6 on Friday night.

Morel mushroom harvesting permits go on sale

Morel mushroom permits will go on sale May for commercial harvesting of mushrooms in the Jolly Mountain fire area, according to a news release from the Okanogon-Wenatchee National Forest.

Around MLS: LAFC’s successful road trip paves way for stadium opening

LAFC is returning home for the opening of its brand-new downtown stadium. The club had to start with six matches on the road and did surprisingly well, especially for an expansion team. LAFC collected four wins and 12 points for the best start on the road in league history. The team hosts the Sounders on Sunday night at Banc of California stadium.

Jordan Spieth seeks third straight strong finish at Zurich Classic

Jordan Spieth suspects he could be on the cusp of a banner year. That’s why he’s trying to strike the right balance of fun and focus when he teams up with good friend Ryan Palmer in New Orleans this weekend for the Zurich Classic. Spieth will try to capitalize on momentum he’s gained with top-three finishes at the Houston Open and the Masters. This is the second year of the two-player team format at the Zurich, where the field includes defending champions Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt.
