Cross country: GU women 25th, WSU men 26th at nationals

The Gonzaga women took 25th and the Washington State men were 26th at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Saturday at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The Bulldogs, who were making their first appearance at nationals, were led by Shelby Mills, who took 82nd place after covering the 6,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 44.50 seconds.

Cross country: Roiko leads Whitworth women to third place

Led by Kellyn Roiko’s fourth-place finish, the Whitworth women’s cross country team claimed third place at the NCAA Division III West Region Championships Saturday in Claremont, California. Roiko covered the 6,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 52.40 seconds. Her teammate, Allie Wood, took seventh in 22:08.5.

Cross country: Whelan, Williams lead WSU men to fourth place at NCAA West Regionals

John Whelan and Michael Williams finished second and third, respectively, and the Washington State men’s cross country team took fourth place out of 35 teams at the NCAA West Regionals at a rain-soaked Jefferson Park Golf Course Friday in Seattle. Whelan covered the 10,000-meter course in 30 minutes, 54.9 seconds and Williams finished in 31:05.4. Oregon’s Edward Cheserek claimed medalist honors with a time of 30:43.2.
