Volleyball: Washington ousted in Elite Eight

Kadie Rolfzen had 20 kills and 15 digs and Nebraska topped Washington in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. Scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-20 and 25-21. The loss snapped the Huskies’ 14-match winning streak.

Volleyball: NIC loses, takes 10th at nationals

Jai Chapman had 18 kills and 14 digs as the Hutchinson volleyball team topped North Idaho in five sets in the consolation final at the NJCAA National Championships Saturday in Casper, Wyoming. Scores were 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 14-25 and 15-11. Hutchinson (34-9), which closed out the match with a 6-2 run, took ninth place and the Cardinals (22-16) were 10th.

YAKIMA – Sue Doering has come up with many pithy sayings in her lengthy, accomplished career as Colfax volleyball coach. She unveiled another Saturday night as the Bulldogs were in the throes of a gut-wrenching, five-game state championship match. “I told them ‘You’ve got to have a cool head to win a hot game,’ ” she said with a smile after her squad toppled arch-rival LaConner, 20-25, 29-27, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Prep roundup: Mead tops CV in regional volleyball title match

Maddie Lee had 13 kills and Sarah Absalonson added 32 assists and six aces as Mead secured the top seed to the state tournament with a five-set victory over Central Valley in the 4A regional title match Saturday at Mead. Prep volleyball: Colfax powers past Reardan

Carmen Gfeller powered for 23 kills, nine aces and seven blocks Wednesday as two-time defending State 2B volleyball champion Colfax defeated visiting Reardan 25-19, 22-25, 25-17, 25-12 in 2B regional play. Morgan Lorde added 22 digs, and Ashtyn Aune and Catelyn Schold had 15 assists apiece for the Bulldogs, who will meet Wilbur-Creston at 11:45 a.m. Saturday in a winner-to-state match when the tournament shifts to Asotin.

Gonzaga claimed its 10th sweep of the season on Saturday, beat San Francisco (16-9, 3-9) in a West Coast Conference match in Spokane. Scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-19. McKayla Ferris had 11 kills and 13 digs and Kaylie Loewen added 11 kills for the Bulldogs (14-10, 5-6), who play Pepperdine in Malibu, California, next Saturday.
