Black Lives Matter Artist Grant winners announced

On Thursday, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at WSU announced the recipients of the Black Lives Matter Artist Grants. Each of the 20 winners will receive $2,500 to “fund the creation of art that communicates the voices, experiences and artistic expression of social justice efforts in response to systemic racism,” per a news release.

‘Jersey Boys’ rescheduled to February 2022; Travolta show canceled

"Jersey Boys," which was originally scheduled as part of the 2019-20 STCU Best of Broadway season, has been postponed until Feb. 11-13, 2022. Those with tickets for the original dates should keep their tickets. Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates. Ticketholders will receive an email with more information.

Christmas Tree Elegance postpones 2020 event

As announced last weekend, the coronavirus pandemic has claimed another event: Christmas Tree Elegance, which was scheduled to run Dec. 1-13 in River Park Square. Christmas Tree Elegance, organized by the Spokane Symphony Associates, is a free-to-attend fundraiser for the Spokane Symphony. The 2019 event raised more than $400,000.

The Flaming Lips cancel March 19 concert at the Fox

The Flaming Lips have canceled their March 19 concert at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. In an email, Fox staff said though the show has not been rescheduled, they look forward to welcoming the Flaming Lips to the Fox in the future. Refunds have been issued to those who bought tickets with a debit or credit card.

Spokane Symphony celebrates 75th anniversary with Gala 2020

The Spokane Symphony's Gala 2020 streams live at 7 p.m. Thursday at event.gives/sso/. During the fundraising event, music director James Lowe will discuss his thoughts on live music for 2021, and there will, of course, be plenty of music from symphony musicians and special guests.

Bing Crosby’s lasting legacy in Spokane

Though he was born in Tacoma and moved to Los Angeles in 1925, Spokane has always been proud to call Bing Crosby one of our own. Crosby moved to Spokane at the age of 3. He enrolled in Webster Grade School in 1908. Two years later, a neighbor, Valentine Hobart, began calling Crosby, born Harry, Bingo after the lead character in the comic "The Bingville Bugle."

Singer and pianist Jim Brickman was looking forward to going on his annual holiday tour across the U.S. at the end of the year, but the coronavirus pandemic had other plans. Instead of cancelling the tour, Brickman is taking the show on the virtual road. "Comfort and Joy at Home" will find Brickman performing a virtual concert.

The world still loves ‘I Love Lucy’

Sixty-nine years ago Thursday, on Oct. 15, 1951, "I Love Lucy" premiered, introducing the world at large to Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Both seasoned performers before "I Love Lucy," Ball and Arnaz cemented their places in entertainment history while portraying Lucy and Ricky Ricardo in the series that ran from 1951-1957.
