If West Valley coach Craig Whitney had concerns about graduating 19 players off a team that posted a 22-3 record over the past two years, maybe those fears were abated on Thursday.
On Thursday, Curtis Terry was named Northwest League Most Valuable Player and first-team first base on its year-end all-star team.
Now that the skies have cleared and the air is a bit cooler, thoughts turn to football. The Washington high school season starts tonight in some places and on Friday everywhere else.
There’s a eerie familiarity between two of the top teams in the Greater Spokane League. Both come off bitter losses in last year’s state tournaments. Both enter play ranked in the top-10 in the state. Both lost a ton of talent to graduation.
Central Valley has a program that most others should envy. Not many schools can replace the Greater Spokane League 4A Offensive MVP with a player the caliber of Matt Gabbert.
Shadle Park boasts 30 returning lettermen and 11 starters, including its all-league combo of senior quarterback Carson Doyle and junior wide receiver Xavier Atkins.
