Turkish Soldiers Kill Kurd Rebels
Turkish soldiers killed 29 Kurdish rebels Friday in a stepped up military campaign in southeast Turkey, while the army pressed its offensive in northern Iraq to wipe out guerrilla camps.
The clashes in Turkey, which began Wednesday, indicated Kurdish rebels were attempting to retaliate for the army’s push into Iraq. A regional governor in Diyarbakir said 55 other rebels had been killed in the earlier actions. No military casualties were reported.
