Best Of Banff Films Coming To Spokane
Wildlife lovers and outdoor adrenaline junkies will find plenty to get their juices flowing when the Best of the Banff Mountain Film Festival tour comes to Spokane, Friday, 7 p.m., at The Met.
The three-hour road-tour program will feature the best of last year’s rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, adventure and wildlife films judged at the famous Canadian festival last fall.
Tickets cost $10 at the show door or $9 in advance from Mountain Gear or G&B Select-a-Seat.
Here’s a sampling of the films to be shown:
“Rock ‘n’ Road,” a 48-minute flick featuring climber Charlie Fowler, rock gymnast Tiffany Levine and Xaver Bongard, Switzerland’s premier big-wall climber, on a road trip that includes the first clean ascent of The Shield on El Capitan.
“L’esprit de la Coupe Icare,” a short French flick on hangliding and hang gliding.
“I Really Wanna Know,” five minutes of crash-and-burn video covering wild rafting and kayaking on the Ottawa River. (Everybody lives.)
“He Dances for His Cormorants,” a half-hour feature on the cormorant as it has been used for thousands of years as a fishing tool in China’s lakes.
The film was the People’s Choice award winner and Best Film on Mountain Culture at the Banff Film Fest. It’s a story of an egg and secrets passed through generations.
