City Parks Dept. Offers Adventure

-Rich Landers

Outdoor recreation

Never before has the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department offered so much variety in its springsummer outdoor adventure program.

Enroll in courses on backpacking, canoe paddling, sea kayaking, scuba diving, in-line skating, rock climbing and outdoor cooking.

Join an organized group for local and regional trips. They range from canoeing the Little Spokane River, to sea kayaking among the San Juan Islands; rafting the Spokane River to longer trips on the Wenatchee and Salmon rivers; biking the Centennial Trail to bicycle wine tours in the Yakima Valley and on the Oregon Coast. How about mountain biking to hot springs?

Special trips are planned for women-only, seniors-only and teensonly.

New in the teen program is a sixday sea, sail and science camp aboard a full-scale 18th-century 26-foot longboat reproduction in the San Juan Islands.
