Knowledge Of Course Helps As Esmeralda Aide Leads Way

Local knowledge was helpful as Esmeralda Golf Course assistant pro Alan Jenkins fired a 5-under-par 65 Monday to win the Washington Trust Bank Pro-Am on his home course.

Jenkins captured his first ever Pro-Am title with an eagle on the third hole and birdies on the 6th, 9th, 10th and 18th holes despite bogeying two holes. Chris Mitchell, the Sun Dance pro, finished one stroke behind with a 66.

Low amateur Kevin Herro from Downriver was third with a 67.

In the team competition, Esmeralda’s Rex Schultz, Ray Kennedy, Bryan Vinneau, Dennis Perkins and Bob Morgan combined for a 28-under-par 112.

Next stop on the WTB Pro-Am tour is at Bryden Canyon Golf Course in Lewiston next Monday.

Eric Pearson scored the winning run in the top of the 16th inning to push the Rogers Pirates (3-0) past the Lewis and Clark Tigers 2-1 in the completion of a GSL baseball game at Hart Field.

The game resumed in the 12th inning after being called Friday because of darkness tied 1-1.

Pearson reached base when catcher interference was called on the Tigers (0-2). He advanced to second and then scored after the ball was overthrown to third base on a sacrifice bunt.

In Frontier League action, the Pullman Greyhounds slipped past the visiting Cheney Blackhawks 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader despite getting just one hit before the Blackhawks rebounded 10-0.

In the nightcap, Rich DeMulling had a three-run home run and C.J. Albin a solo shot to back Tucker Urdahl’s three-hit pitching. He struck out 14 and walked five.
