Other Fatal House Fires

Six people have died in house fires in the Spokane area in the past several months.

FEB. 24: Sue Swingle, 48, died at her home at 12525 E. Moffat, northeast of Spokane. The fire probably was caused by a cigarette.

JAN. 1: Roxanne Wankmueller, 9, after she and a playmate were trapped in the basement of a house at 1918 W. Shannon in Spokane. The fire probably was caused by children playing with a cigarette lighter.

NOV. 26: Charles Wrentmore died at his home on a sparsely populated stretch of Stanton Road near Deer Park. The fire probably started because of a propane heater and hot plate Wrentmore used to keep warm.

OCT. 20: A 61-year-old man died in a fire that destroyed a mobile home parked at a dead end on West Montgomery just north of Deer Park. It’s unclear what caused the fire.

SEPT. 27: John C. Herriman, 3, died in a travel trailer near a mobile home at 16712 S. Carstens Road. The cause of the fire is unknown.
