Seahawks Make Move, Trade Fourth-Round Pick For Cardinals’ Receiver

Compiled From Wire Services

The Seattle Seahawks moved to close a gap at wide receiver Monday, acquiring Ricky Proehl from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a fourth-round draft choice.

Proehl, the Cardinals’ fifth-round draft choice in 1990 out of Wake Forest, accepted an incentive-laden three-year, $2.8 million contract, the Seahawks said in a news release.

Last year, Proehl caught 51 passes for 651 yards, a 12.8 average, and five touchdowns.

He has 287 catches for 3,840 yards and 21 touchdowns and has started 65 of the 80 games in which he played, including all but one since his rookie year.

Herschel Walker signed a three-year, $4.8 million contract with the New York Giants, and coach Dan Reeves said he is considering playing Walker and Rodney Hampton in the same backfield this coming NFL season.

Defensive back Terrell Buckley was traded by the Green Bay Packers to the Miami Dolphins for past considerations.

Buckley was a first-round draft pick of the Packers in 1992 out of Florida State and started 46 games over three seasons, with 10 interceptions, including five last season.

Receiver Tom Waddle, known as a clutch receiver for the Chicago Bears, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. Terms were not disclosed.

Waddle had 25 catches for 244 yards and one touchdown last season, when he missed seven games due to injury. He has 173 catches for 2,109 yards and nine touchdowns in his pro career.
