‘Bible-Toting’ Students Were Lifesavers

Dear Our Generation,

Last year I spent a semester at Ferris High School. It was a time of great change and emotional turmoil for me. As peer pressure began to take its toll, I began to slip. I gave in to various temptations around me and suffered great consequences.

Depression set in and my grades dropped. I began skipping school. In a school the size of Ferris, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. Never could I have imagined myself sinking to this point.

I could have been one of many casualties of the growing number of teens who take refuge in drugs and drown out their troubles with alcohol if it had not been for a few good Christians who reached out to me and touched my life in a way that no others could have done. If it had not been for their concern and friendship, I’m very sure I would have gone over the edge. I’ve never had a greater appreciations for those wonderful Bibletoting, praying Christians than I do now.

I always saw them praying together in the cafeteria before first period and wished that I could have it together as they did. I cannot even begin to tell you what could have happened to me if people who honestly cared had not been there to help me through this hard time.

As for me, I hope that Steve, Jeremy, Angela, Chris and people like them can continue to pray before first period, tote their Bibles around all they want and keep people like me from destroying their future through their love and concern.

I feel bad for the writer of the article in Our Generation two weeks ago who said that school is no place for Christian crusades. He has missed out on some genuine, loving people, not to mention missing out on the unconditional love and acceptance their God has to offer him.
