Hillary Prugh Ferris Year: Sophomore Sport: Golf

Ferris sophomore golfer Hillary Prugh is a team player in an individual sport.

Shortly after being asked about last week’s win at the Coke Invitational at Creek at Qualchan, Prugh said: “Can I talk about the team now?

“Our team’s going to be really strong this season,” she said. “We think we can take state.”

With the help of Bridget Johnson, Jennifer Hatley and Julie Jensen, the Saxons’ team chances at state look good.

Prugh won the Coke Invitational by six strokes with an 81.

Last year, the daughter of Manito Country Club pro Steve Prugh finished ninth at state.

“I think I did pretty good, but I just want to play well and have fun,” she said.

She is also resisting the temptation of putting too much pressure on herself.

“Sometimes I do that, but then I realize I have to just have fun and play my best.”

Prugh, who stands 5-foot-6, said her lack of size hurts her long game.

“I’m kind of a wimp and I don’t hit it very far,” she said. “But I think I make up for that with the good use of my irons on the approach shots.”
