Albertson’s Ranked Nation’s Top Grocer

Fortune magazine ranked Boise based Albertson’s the No. 1 retail food and drug company in America, based on comments from 10,000 business managers and analysts in 41 industries.

Criteria included quality of management, quality of produce or service, innovation, value as a longterm investment, use of corporate assets and environmental responsibility, according to the March 6 issue of Fortune.

Publix Super Markets, Walgreen, Kroger and Safeway followed Albertson’s in the list of top five food and drug chains in the United States. Albertson’s was the only Northwest-based chain to make the top 10.

Fortune also also ranked Albertson’s the 15th “most admired company” for all industries in the United States. Rubbermaid was No. 1 on the list; Boeing was ranked 16th.
