Assistant Chief Added To Staff At Valley Fire

From Staff Reports

Valley Fire District has created a second assistant chief position and appointed one of its own.

Dave Lobdell, a captain at Station No. 6, will begin the position May 1, said Chief Pat Humphries.

Lobdell will be assistant chief in charge of personnel, focusing on career advancement and performance ratings.

Assistant Chief Karl Bold will remain in charge of operations, including the alarm room, equipment and building maintenance and emergency medical services.

Most other districts of Valley Fire’s size have two assistant chiefs, Humphries said. “It’s too much for one person,” he said

Lobdell has been with the district for 21 years, and served as a firefighter, alarm operator and lieutenant before becoming a station captain.

Interested in managing growth?

County commissioners are seeking applications from Valley residents interested in serving as non-voting members of the Growth Management Steering Committee.

The steering committee makes recommendations to the commissioners regarding regional planning issues. Steering committee members should be available to meet for a three-hour period on Friday mornings.

A more detailed outline of the steering committee’s responsibilities and application forms are available at the county commissioners office, 1116 W. Broadway. Both can also be had by calling 456-2265.

The funds were raised through last year’s Children’s Miracle Network, Festival of Trees and other donations.

Valley Hospital and Medical Center plans to purchase a defibrillator monitor for cardiac arrhythmia and a fetal monitor that monitors heart rates of newborn babies.
