Cardinal Says Movie Is ‘Anti-Catholic’

Compiled From Wire Services

The movie “Priest,” about clergymen struggling with spiritual and worldly issues, has few redeeming features and is “viciously anti-Catholic,” a Roman Catholic cardinal says.

Cardinal John O’Connor admits he has not seen the movie, but says he doesn’t need to; the reviews he read were enough.

The movie’s characters include a priest devoted to his parishioners while sleeping with his female housekeeper, and a gay priest who is torn over how to stop a congregation member from sexually abusing his daughter.

O’Connor’s comments are in his weekly column in Catholic New York, which appeared Thursday.
