Susan Mattoon Selected As Ewu’s Teacher Of Month

Susan Mattoon, a first/second grade teacher at Windsor Elementary School, has been selected as Eastern Washington University’s Teacher of the Month for March.

She was nominated by her student Joshua Doss who says she “made me feel happy when I was at school.”

Past National President Mary Sears, of Coeur d’Alene, and a member of Coeur d’Alene Auxiliary No. 889, recently joined key leaders of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at its 1995 National Mid-Year Conference held in Arlington, Va.

The following local students have made the dean’s/president’s list at their college/university for fall semester:

Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa.: Colin Charbonneau, son of Dr. Ed and Faris Charbonneau, Spokane.

Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, Minn.: Maura Shuttleworth, daughter of Paul and Mary Shuttleworth, Moses Lake; Jason Smerdon, son of Michael and Diane Smerdon, Pullman; and Michael Westbrock, son of James Westbrock, Spokane.

Loyola University, New Orleans, La.: John Keyes and James McLaughlin, both of Spokane.

Washington State University, Pullman: Nick Landt, son of Steve and Cindy Landt, Reardan, Wash.

Boston University: Noah Malgeri, son of Terry and Jeanne Glagowski, Spokane.

Lewis and Clark High School took first in varsity and junior varsity competition out of five high schools competing in the Eastern Washington division of the 16th annual Tests of Engineering, Aptitude, Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) competition at Gonzaga University. There were nine eightmember teams participating in the event from LC, North Central, University, St. George’s, and Moses Lake high schools.

North Central High School tied with St. George’s School for third in both varsity and junior varsity. University High School placed second in both varsity and junior varsity.

Members of the LC varsity team were: Robert Dirks, Jason Munning, Justin Munning, Shayna Silverstein, Katherine Winner, Robin Swanson, Data Ballinger and Noah Skokalich. Winners of the LC junior varsity team were: Navad Tanners, Josh Reidt, Robin Jenkenson, Sam Bishop, Charles Olmstead, Betsy Querna and Mark Sullivan.
