Crews Search Coast For Missing Boy

Compiled From Wire Services

Searchers scoured the rugged Olympic Peninsula coast Monday for a 6-year-old Neah Bay boy who vanished during a beach hike.

Bryce F. Herda disappeared Sunday during a hike with family members along the northern peninsula’s Shi Shi Beach.

When an older brother turned around to look for Bryce at one point, he was gone, Clallam County Undersheriff Joe Martin said.

Crews from the county and the U.S. Coast Guard searched all night on the beach and in the water. About 30 people, including members of the National Park Service, searched until dark Monday but found no trace of the boy, Martin said.

They planned to light bonfires in hopes of drawing the boy to them in the dark.

A dozen or so search-and-rescue members from Jefferson County have been asked to help out when the search resumes Tuesday morning.
