Operation Doughboy Defendant Sentenced

Compiled From Wire Services

Another defendant in a Spokane cocaine ring was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court.

Terence Brousseau, 37, of Spokane, must complete six months of home detention for making five cocaine purchases at The Comet Bar, 5028 N. Market.

He was a bartender at the Hillyard tavern when he made the cocaine purchases between May 13 and 21, 1994, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Rice.

Brousseau was among three dozen defendants indicted in Operation Doughboy, the biggest cocaine investigation ever prosecuted in Spokane.

In January, Brousseau pleaded guilty to five felony counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The prosecution recommended that Brousseau serve six months in jail.

But Brousseau’s attorney, Aaron Lowe, argued for home detention. He said Brousseau lives with and cares for his father, who has Alzheimer’s disease, and his mother, who is blind.

U.S. District Court Judge Frem Nielsen agreed to home detention, and also placed Brousseau on two years of probation.
