Bail At $1 Million For Man Held In Slaying

From Staff And Wire Reports

Bail was set at $1 million Tuesday for the man jailed for investigation in the abduction and slaying of a 7-year-old girl.

Richard M. Clark, 26, was booked Monday for investigation of firstdegree murder and first-degree kidnapping in the March 31 disappearance of Roxanne Doll. He had been in custody since Friday on $100,000 bail, charged with witness-tampering in the case.

Snohomish County chief criminal deputy prosecutor James Townsend revealed in court that Roxanne was sexually assaulted before she was killed. He also said that blood found in Clark’s van was human.

Prosecutors must decide on formal charges against Clark by the close of business Thursday.

Asked after the bail hearing whether prosecutors were considering a charge of aggravated first-degree murder, the only crime that carries the death penalty in Washington, Townsend said: “Everything’s still in the range of consideration.”

The victim’s mother, Gail DollIffrig, said she would oppose the death penalty because it would be too swift.
