Rwandan Refugees Returned To Camps

Compiled From Wire Services

Most of the approximately 70,000 Rwandan refugees who fled camps in northern Burundi two weeks ago will probably be back in the camps by the end of this week, a U.N. official said Tuesday.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees shuttled 10,400 refugees in trucks to Magara camp Saturday and Monday from a temporary site on the route to the Tanzanian border, said UNHCR spokesman Ron Redmond.

Thousands had already returned to the camps on their own or in previous convoys, Redmond said. With trucks planned to move 6,000 more refugees every day, most of the people remaining outside will be back in the camps by the weekend.
