Body From River Identified

From Staff And Wire Reports

A body pulled from the Spokane River on Wednesday is that of a 34-year-old Spokane Valley man.

Mark Nicholl, 152 South Pines, was found in the water near the T.J. Meenach Bridge on the North Side.

Spokane County Coroner Dexter Amend said Thursday the body had been in the water less than a week.

Nicholl was described by friends and relatives as being suicidal for a number of years, officials said.

He left a suicide note with his roommate before disappearing last week. No one reported seeing him jump into the river, Amend said. He had a fractured rib cage and cuts on his arms when he was found.

Authorities at first believed the body was that of a man Washington State Patrol troopers pursued last month. The man jumped from his car and leaped into the water east of downtown.

He hasn’t been seen since.
