Ccs Sweeps Yakima Valley

 

Jason Mathews doubled off the left-field fence in the eighth inning to score Andy Sage and give host Community Colleges of Spokane a 1-0 win over Yakima Valley (2-8 in NWAACC East Region, 5-11 overall) in the opening game of the doubleheader Saturday.

Charlie Zimmerman earned his fourth complete game win in a row by striking out five and walking three.

In the second game, Jason Uberuaga and R.B. McCord smacked solo home runs in a three-run eighth inning as CCS (9-1, 11-4) overcame a 3-2 deficit and won their ninth game in a row, 5-3.

The other run came when Chad Ripke, who went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, drove in Shaun Walker. Cory Sivumaki recorded the win for the Sasquatch.

The Sasquatch used strong pitching and a potent offense to blank the visiting Indians in both games of the doubleheader.

In the first game, Carla Coffield had two home runs and Deanna Fountain went the distance, giving up five hits.

In the finale, Julie Fountain earned the win while Tanya Palmer, Heather Santos and Amy Flaa had two hits each.
