Floyd Leads Senior Pack, But Nicklaus, Colbert On Trail

Ray Floyd birdied the last hole and opened a twoshot lead, while Jack Nicklaus continued a comeback in the third round of the PGA Seniors Championship Saturday at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Floyd shot a 5-under-par 67 on the Champion course at the PGA Resort and completed 54 holes in 207, 9-under-par.

Jim Colbert and Jack Nicklaus are his closest pursuers going into today’s final round.

Nicklaus, who started with a struggling 76 and followed with an erratic 66, had a more conventional 68 that put him three shots back at 210.Nicklaus, however, played much more solidly this time, missing only two greens and running off a string of nine

At Hilton Head Island, S.C., Mark McCumber, David Edwards and David Frost led a startling assault on Harbour Town Golf Links and shared the lead after three rounds of the PGA’s MCI Classic.

McCumber had a 64 and Edwards and Frost posted 66s. All were at 8-under 205 along with first-round coleader Gene Sauers, who had a 69.

Kirk Triplett of Pullman is at 212 for 1-under.

At Pinehurst, N.C., Nicole Jeray had a career-best 67 and took a one-shot lead over Liselotte Neumann of Sweden after two rounds of the $650,000 LPGA Pinewild Championship.

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum is at 152, 8-over.
