Despite grim news about ocean salmon fishing this summer, anglers can find good salmon fishing in freshwater or salt right now if they’re willing to look for it.

Possibilities include:

Chinook salmon - North Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands and the Strait of Juan de Fuca for blackmouth.

Steelhead - Skykomish River good for catch-and-release; Cowlitz River fair for small hatchery steelhead. Summer runs beginning to show in Kalama River.
