Steamboat Jean May Be Moved Again

From Staff And Wire Reports

Steamboat Jean may be moved again Lewiston Frustration with shoreline regulations could send the Steamboat Jean on another journey.

The boat’s co-owners have discussed selling the boat after months of waiting for a Washington Department of Ecology variance that would allow the boat to remain at Mulberry beach, a few miles south of Asotin.

“It’s just gotten to be kind of a hassle for us,” said Howard Winroth, co-owner of the Jean. The steamboat was used for years in logging but has become sort of a white elephant recently.

Winroth and the boat’s other owner, Elmer Earl, have cleaned the boat up but don’t have the money to make other improvements, Winroth said.

An Asotin County resident is interested in buying the Jean. Earl and Winroth also are considering pushing the boat to the Idaho side of the Snake River where the bureaucratic hurdles wouldn’t be as high.
