Idaho’s Liske Finalist For A.D. Job At Virginia

Idaho athletic director Pete Liske is one of five finalists for a similar position at the University of Virginia, The Spokesman-Review has learned.

The other finalists are believed to be Kevin White, athletic director at Tulane; Terry Holland, A.D. at Davidson and former Virginia basketball coach; Charles Harris, A.D. at Arizona State; and Craig Littlepage, interim A.D. at Virginia.

Liske said he wasn’t aware he was a finalist. He said his only contact with Virginia was been in phone conversations, including an hour-long discussion about two weeks ago.

“That was more of a preliminary step,” Liske said. “I think it (Virginia) is one of the best institutions in the country.”

Virginia plans a second round of interviews soon. The Atlantic Coast Conference school, located in Charlottesville, is replacing Jim Copeland, who left to take the A.D. position at Southern Methodist.

Liske’s son, Tucker, attended Virginia. When Liske played football at Penn State, one of the Nittany Lions’ staff members was George Welsh, now Virginia’s head coach.

Liske has been at Idaho since September, 1992.
