Portland State Woos ‘Sky

Portland State will seek admission to the Big Sky Athletic Conference and would move up to NCAA Division I level from Division II if accepted, the school announced.

Portland State doesn’t belong to a conference. Its baseball team already is in Division I.

Joining the Big Sky would increase the $2.7 million Portland State athletics budget by about $2 million or $2.5 million over the next five years.

The extra money would come from ticket sales, sponsorships and private donations.

Big Sky schools are expected to vote on the Portland State application by early June.
