Eagles Sign Players

Compiled From Wire Services

The Philadelphia Eagles announced the signing of unrestricted free-agent offensive tackle Joe Sims and free-agent running back Derrick Witherspoon, and re-signed restricted free-agent wide receiver Jeff Sydner.

Sims, 26, is entering his fifth NFL season, spending the last three with the Green Bay Packers.

Sydner, selected by the Eagles in the sixth round in 1992, has played 36 games with Philadelphia, primarily as a punt and kick returner.

Witherspoon, from Clemson, was released by New England last summer following training camp.

San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr. suffered a broken collarbone when his Cadillac was struck from behind during a lane change on Highway 101 near San Francisco International Airport.
