Former Hurricane Sues

Former Miami Hurricanes football player Brad Shirey has filed a lawsuit alleging that the school failed to properly evaluate a mass in his right hamstring that turned out to be cancerous.

Subsequent chemotherapy and surgery eliminated all cancer, said Shirey’s attorney, Gary Cohen.

The suit by Shirey, which doesn’t specify damages sought, was filed against the university and two trainers.

The tumor was found just prior to spring practice in 1993, when he was slotted to start at offensive guard.
