Julie and Deanna Fountain combined to strike out 15 batters and the Community Colleges of Spokane overwhelmed Shoreline Community College 19-0 and 14-0 in an NWAACC Eastern Region softball doubleheader Friday at Spokane Falls.

Carla Coffield led the 17-hit attack, going 2 for 2 and driving in four runs. Juline Parry added three runs batted in on a 2-for-3 performance.

Deanna Fountain went the distance on the mound, striking out four, to up her record to 7-2. Julie Fountain collected three hits and drove in a run.

The Sasquatch picked up in the second game where they left off after the first, smacking nine more hits and capitalizing on seven Dolphin errors to help Julie Fountain, who struck out 11, walked just one batter and limited the Dolphins to three hits, improve her record to 5-3.

Amy Flaa provided plenty of muscle at the plate, rapping out a double and a home run to finish with three runs batted in.

Baseball

The Big Bend Vikings rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch, 9-8, in an NWAACC Eastern region game in Moses Lake.

Sasquatch pitchers issued 17 walks, including four in the ninth, two of which forced in the tying and winning runs after two outs. The other two walks helped load the bases for the Vikings.

Jason Ueberuaga went 3-for-4, drove in two runs and scored two more to lead the Sasquatch, who fell to 10-3 in league and 12-6 overall. Big Bend is 5-7 and 7-9.

CCS plays at Columbia Basin Community College in a noon doubleheader today.

EWU football scrimmage

Eastern Washington will hold its first spring scrimmage today at 11 a.m., probably on the practice field.
