Snohomish Pro Signs On With Birdies Golf Center

Birdies Golf Center may not be ready for action until somewhere near the first of August, but it already has a pro lined up.

Clint Wallman, 34, the head pro at Snohomish Golf Course in Monroe, Wash., has been signed by Birdies.

“Clint’s teaching ability, his knowledge of the golf business and his love of the game will be tremendous assets for Birdies,” said Bud Nameck, director of Birdies.

Wallman, a Washington State grad, was the 1990 national putting champion, Nameck said.

The range at Birdies will feature roughly 50 hitting stalls - 22 of which will be covered and heated, Nameck said of the facility off Nevada behind the North Pointe Plaza.

Look for the Kenny Easley Celebrity Classic golf tournament to return to The Creek at Qualchan this summer. Dates are June 9 and 10.

Organizers are not yet certain of the celebrities who will appear.

But they have come across a method that might lead to more effective fund-raising for charity this time around. Auctions of celebrity sports memorabilia have earned nearly $50,000 for charities in the tournament’s first two years.

This year, the auction at the June 8 kickoff party will be televised on local cable, with viewers able to bid on items over the telephone.

Charities to benefit include the Spokane Wishing Star Foundation and the Martin Luther King Junior Outreach Center.

Notes

Spots remain for the 1995 Camp Automotive Qualchan Best-Ball on May 6-7.

Cost is $70 per team plus green fees. Handicap spread between team members is limited to seven strokes or less.

A local company might be able to meet your golf needs. If you have different golf needs than most.

Mobile Mini Golf (625-3243) will bring the course to you.

The 9-hole portable course can be set up indoors or out, with set-up and delivery included.

Owner Angela Herigon said 300 square feet of space is needed and the “course” requires roughly half and hour to unload and another half hour to set up.

Any signature holes? Of course. What would a miniature golf course be without a windmill?

Don’t expect the annual pro-am clash in the Washington Trust Bank Cup this year.

Historically, the top pros in the pro-am series have taken on the top point-getters in the amateur ranks at the end of the season.

It’s tended to be a lopsided affair, with the pros frequently coming close to sweeping the competition.

This year, the pros are divided into divisions and the Cup matches will pit pros from one division against pros from the other.
