Boaters, fishers, birdwatchers, hunters and anyone else who uses the Winchester Wasteway in Grant County should be aware of proposals being considered by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department that could affect future use.
The wasteway, a mostly natural channel that funnels irrigation runoff into Potholes Reservoir, is an increasingly popular recreation attraction within the department’s Desert Wildlife Area.
Proposals being considered include prohibiting boats with motors over 10 horsepower in certain areas, seasonal restrictions or closures for all users and a ban on using jet skis.
Comments can be sent until May 1 to Washington Fish and Wildlife Department, Attention: Winchester Wasteway, 1550 Alder St. N.W., Ephrata, WA 98823.
