Ryan, Cameron Spark Cougars To Pac-10 Split

College baseball

Rob Ryan and Ken Cameron each drove home two runs as Washington State, behind Kyle Kawabata’s complete game, downed host Portland State 8-4 Saturday to salvage a split with the Vikings in a Pacific-10 Conference North doubleheader Saturday.

The Cougars (10-8 Pac-10 North, 19-23 overall) broke a 4-4 tie by scoring four runs in the last three innings. Vikings (10-7, 16-26) starter Jerry McMullen, who worked into the seventh inning, took the loss.

In the opener, Greg Wooten went the distance, with Cougars starter Robert Ramsay taking the loss. Jared Clifford and Todd Belitz finished up for WSU in the seventh inning.

The split kept the Vikings one-half game ahead of WSU in the Pac-10 standings, while league leader Washington, with two wins over Oregon State Saturday, is one game ahead of PSU and 1 1/2 games in front of WSU.
