Kansas St. Aide To Know Today If He’ll Accept Position At Ewu

Mike Sando Staff Writer

Steve Aggers will decide by today whether to accept Eastern Washington University’s offer to become the school’s next men’s head basketball coach, the Kansas State assistant said Monday.

“We got some specifics worked out on details related to the job,” Aggers said from his home in Manhattan, Kan. “Now the ball’s in my court, so to speak, and I have to make up my mind whether I will accept it or not.”

Aggers said that, in addition to meeting Monday morning with Kansas State head coach Tom Asbury, he spoke by telephone with EWU officials.

“I just got the specifics worked out with them today in terms of contract, and so my family and I are going to sit down tonight and talk about it,” Aggers said. “My wife works, my daughter was at school, so we need to sit down tonight as a family and discuss it. It’s a family decision, so that’s what we’re going to do this evening - make a decision, and then don’t look back one way or the other.”

EWU had narrowed its search last week to Aggers, former Idaho coach Kermit Davis and Seattle Pacific coach Ken Bone. The job was offered Thursday to Davis, but the Utah State assistant declined the position Sunday afternoon. Aggers was then offered the job within hours.
