Young America beat Stars & Stripes by 52 seconds in the defender finals, reducing Dennis Conner’s chances of reaching the America’s Cup finals.

A victory by Stars & Stripes would have put Conner back in the America’s Cup finals for the first time in seven years.

Conner must now beat America3’s mostly women crew aboard Mighty Mary today in order to reach the America’s Cup match against Team New Zealand beginning May 6. If not, the round will finish in a three-way tie and Young America and Mighty Mary will have a sudden-death sailoff Wednesday to determine the U.S. defender.
