Strawberry Avoids Prison

Compiled From Wire Services

Former major league baseball player Darryl Strawberry got off easy at his sentencing for federal tax evasion, drawing six months of home confinement instead of the three months in prison he had agreed to in a plea bargain.

Strawberry was not fined but must pay $350,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties. He is allowed to play baseball, including traveling to road games and practices, while serving his sentence.

Strawberry was also sentenced to three years’ probation, 100 hours of community service and mandatory drug abuse counseling.
