Cheney Pitchers Cuff Clarkston

Prep baseball/softball/soccer

The Cheney pitching trio of Doug Clark, Rich Demuling and Tucker Urdahl collaborated for a no-hiiter against visiting Clarkston in a 2-1 Frontier League high school baseball win.

Clark started, Demuling entered in the fourth inning and Urdahl entered in the sixth.

Cheney moved its record to 8-4 and Clarkston fell to 3-8.

At Colville, the Indians scored in the bottom of the seventh to beat East Valley 6-5.

The Knights (8-4) rallied to tie the score at 5-5 with three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Indians (5-5) scored the game-winner in their half of the seventh for the win.

With the win, West Valley moved into first place by a game over the Knights.

At Pullman, West Valley smashed the Greyhounds 23-5 with the help of a 14-run sixth inning. The Eagles (9-3) had 18 batters in the inning. WV’s Andy Waldron had three-run HR in the inning. Pitcher Tyson Sohns won his seventh straight game. Pullman is 3-9.

Softball

At East Valley, the Knights squeaked by Colville 1-0. EV’s Angie Vaccaro scored from third on a passed ball for the only run.

EV (5-2) freshman pitcher Tricia Stookey threw a two-hitter and Colville (1-4) freshman pitcher Tarrah Brown gave up just three hits.

At West Valley, the Eagles mauled the Greyhounds (0-7) 18-0 as WV (7-0) freshman Gabrielle McClintock pitched a two-hitter and went 2 for 2 at the plate, including a triple.

At Cheney (5-2), the Blackhawks beat Clarkston (0-7) 4-3 with the help of Rachel Stewart’s two-run homer in the first inning.

Soccer

At Cheney, the league-leading Blackhawks beat Pullman 3-1 to move their record to 9-0-1 while Pullman fell to 5-4-0.

Cheney’s Levi Luhn got a break away after a lead pass by Nick Reynolds and Luhn beat the goalie.

It was one of two break away goals for Luhn on the night.

Cheney has outscored opponents 39-5 this season.

At Clarkston, the Bantams’ (0-7-2) Cory Peterson scored on a penalty kick at the 76-minute mark as Clarkston and Colville played to a 3-3 tie. The Indians are 0-8-2.

At Riverside, Riverside/Deer Park recorded a 2-1 win against West Valley. Ryan Baker and Donovan Hodgson provided the offense for R/DP (4-4-1).

Bi-County baseball

The Reardan pitchers are a hit on the mound this season. They aren’t giving up any, either.

At 11-1 and near the top of the divsion, the Indians are riding the arms of pitchers Carson Keeble, Jason Peterson and Nick Harkness.

Keeble got two wins as the Indians swept Almira/Coulee-Hartline in a doubleheader Tuesday.

A few weeks ago, Keeble and Harkness threw no-hitters in game one and two of a doubleheader in wins against Ritzville, Keeble and Peterson combined to throw a no-hitter against Lind in the first game of a doubleheader while Harkness threw a two-hitter against the Bulldogs to complete the sweep.

Last week, Keeble pitched a one-hitter against league-leading Davenport and Saturday, Peterson threw a no-hitter against WilburCreston in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game against the Wildcats, Harkness threw a four-hitter and struck out 15 batters in getting the win.

For the season, Keeble is 4-2 with a 0.00 earned-run average and 34 strikeouts, Peterson is 4-0 with a 0.61 era with 35 strikeouts and Harkness is 4-0 with a 1.62 era with 38 strikeouts.

The Indians have held opponents to a .096 batting average this season.
