Kiwi Magic - In A Jar

When you see jam coming from North Idaho, it’s almost a sure bet that there are huckleberries inside the jar.

Almost. Sandpoint’s Spice Mountain Foods (soon to be renamed Hartwell’s Gourmet) bucks the trend with a tart, colorful kiwi jam.

“Everyone I know does huckleberry, raspberry,” says coowner Phoebe Ogg. “I thought, shoot, I’m going to do something completely different.” Look for kiwibanana and kiwi-pineapple variations later this year.

Price: Up to $4.50 for 7.5 ounces.

Available: Various locations, including Made in Washington stores in Spokane, Sharon’s Hallmark Shop and the Pend Oreille Cheese Co. in Sandpoint and Mrs. Squeeky’s Mouse House in Kootenai.
