Bank Customers To Pay For Human Touch

Associated Press

Want to deposit your paycheck with a bank teller rather than take your chances with a cash machine?

Many customers of Chicago’s largest bank could pay $3 for the privilege beginning in June and experts say it won’t be long before more banks begin imposing similar fees.

Many banks already offer ATM-only accounts, but First National Bank of Chicago is among the first to give customers no other choice.

People who bank at First Chicago are up in arms, saying that when it comes to bank charges, they’re in a no-win situation.

“We are slapped with ATM fees if we use them beyond a certain number of times, which makes me go to the counter,” said customer Ken Movick.

But bank consultants warned that the practice is likely to spread.
