Sapp Signs Quickly

Compiled From Wire Services

Warren Sapp, the 12th pick in last weekend’s NFL draft, signed a four-year, $4.4 million contract with Tampa Bay.

The deal is worth significantly less than the lucrative deal he would have commanded had reports of the 6-1, 281-pound defensive tackle’s alleged drug use not surfaced.

The Pittsburgh Steelers all but said goodbye to former All-Pro running back Barry Foster, signing free-agent Erric Pegram of the Atlanta Falcons to a threeyear contract. Asked if Pegram’s signing signaled Foster’s imminent departure, director of football operations Tom Donahoe said, “People can read into it whatever they want to read into it. We would rather not.”
