Treat Mom To A New Rose As Well As A Charity Gift

Here’s a Mom’s Day gift for a good cause: The Better Homes Fund is working with the Harry and David mail-order company to raise money for homeless moms and children. For every “Spring Miracle” rose ordered from Harry and David, $5 will be donated to Kidstart, a program run by the Better Homes Fund.

The miniature yellow rose can be ordered for Mother’s Day in a wicker basket (cost is $24.95 plus $6.95 delivery charges).

To order, call (800) 547-3033 and specify item No. 8101P. A card explaining the significance of your gift, as well as care instructions, will be included. Order by Monday to ensure delivery by Mother’s Day.

Mark your calendars: If you’ve dreamed of growing flowers and vegetables throughout the long winter months, perhaps a June “Dome Day” workshop is for you.

The seminar on growing spaces will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 3 in Cheney. The focus will be dome greenhouses and the workshop will include instruction in building the domes.

The registration fee is $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Participants should bring their own lunch; however, salads made from plants grown in the domes and beverages will be available.

The workshop is hosted by Northwest Windstar Connection and Lyn Russell. For information, call 466-7058 or 239-4527.

Crafty readers: Newsletter editor Carole Horstmeyer thinks busy people still want to do crafts. So she started a newsletter that specializes in easy projects that don’t take a lot of time to finish.

The range of activities includes recipes, seasonal gifts, gardening and pets. The St. Louis-based newsletter is published six times a year. Subscriptions are $15; write Crafts and Cre-“ate”-tions, PO Box 25434, St. Louis, MO 63125.

On the move: With more than 42 million Americans moving every year, it’s no wonder a few things get left behind.

Mayflower Transit, which has moved a lot of those Americans, has compiled a list of the Top 10 things people often forget. Here are a couple:

The opener: People often forget to take their current garage door opener out of their car and leave it.

Records: Get copies of your medical, dental and even veterinarian records to take with you. Sending for them doesn’t always work quickly or well.
