Meeting Will Focus On Ecosystems

The social implications of managing Inland Northwest lands on large scales - called ecosystems - will be the focus of a meeting today in downtown Spokane.

The 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. event will be held at the Ridpath Hotel and will bring together social scientists from the Pacific Northwest.

They will describe their research on social conditions in the interior Columbia River Basin.

The symposium is part of a Walla Walla-based project by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service. They are crafting new, broader ways of managing public lands that include not only wildlife, but industry and economics.
