Hoch Ahead By Five Shots

Compiled From Wire Services

At The Woodlands, Texas, Scott Hoch scrambled to a 3-under-par 69 to build a five-stroke lead over John Cook and rookie Charlie Rymer heading into the final round of the Houston Open.

Hoch, who held a two-shot advantage, had five birdies and two bogeys as he moved into position to take his sixth tour victory and first since he won the Bob Hope Classic more than a year ago.

Pullman’s Kirk Triplett has a three-day score of 5-under 211.

At Daytona Beach, Fla., Kris Tschetter matched par with a 72 and had her lead trimmed to one stroke after three rounds of the $1.2 million Sprint Championship.

Rocky Thompson took advantage of an early tee time to shoot a 7-under-par 65 for a one-shot lead over hometown favorite Jim Colbert and defending champion Raymond Floyd going into the final round of the windblown Las Vegas Senior Classic. Thompson shot a 31 on the front side of the Tournament Players Club course at Summerlin and made two more birdies coming in as the wind began to howl on the desert layout.
