Officers Attacked In Domestic Dispute
A Spokane man is accused of attacking two police officers who tried to stop him from assaulting a woman in her apartment Friday night.
Keith A. Emery, 21, of 603 E. Houston, is being held at Spokane County Jail on $7,500 bond. He faces charges of assault, domestic violence, malicious mischief and assault on an officer.
The woman was not seriously injured, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.
Police responded to an “unknown trouble” call at about 10 p.m. Through a second-floor window, they saw a man struggling with a woman.
Approaching the apartment, officers saw the suspect holding the woman forcibly. Emery released the woman when ordered to, but then threatened the officers, Cottam said.
Emery hit, kicked and tried to bite an officer who tried to arrest him. He was eventually handcuffed, Cottam said.
When Emery was placed in a patrol car, he tried to kick out a window. Officers put Emery in a leg restraint and took him to jail.
A witness said Emery kicked in the apartment door when the woman refused to let him in. The apartment manager estimated damage to the property at about $100.
