Police Question Teens In North Side Shooting

From Staff Reports

Spokane police questioned three teens late Tuesday in the shooting of an 18-year-old woman on the North Side.

Police did not release the identity of the woman who was shot in the head at 6215 N. Maple St. She was taken to Deaconess Medical Center from the home south of Francis Avenue after the 8 p.m. shooting.

The woman was in critical condition during surgery, according to police.

Three teens who were at the home initially told police the shooting was accidental, said Dick Cottam, a spokesman for the Spokane Police Department.

When the shooting occurred, one of the teens called 911, while another ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

Detectives continued questioning the 19-year-old man and two 15-year-old boys who were at the house Tuesday night, Cottam said.

Investigators from the police department’s Major Crimes Unit also were waiting for a search warrant to enter the home to gather evidence.

The three teens and the victim knew each other, Cottam said. The woman apparently was staying at the home where the shooting occurred.
