Rca’s New Vcrs ‘Commercial-Free’

The Phoenix Gazette

What’s the worst thing about television? Several responses spring to mind, but let’s go with the obvious: commercials.

The VCR has provided some relief, letting you fast-forward through the ads interrupting the movie you taped. But fast forwarding can be so exhausting: Pick up remote control, hold arm out while pushing fast-forward button, sit remote on the table. If you wanted that kind of exercise, you’d join a gym.

RCA wants to make zapping commercials less strenuous. The company’s new line of VCRs includes two “commercial-free” models that mark commercials during recording and automatically fast forward through them during playback.

RCA says the VCRs can zoom through three minutes of commercials in eight to 12 seconds.

The cost is $499. It will be available in the fall.
