John Daly’s victory in the British Open made him eligible for the World Series of Golf later this month and created a conflict with another event solved through some creative scheduling.

Daly was set to play in a tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia, opposite the World Series Aug. 24-27 and some shuffling was needed when he won at the British Open at St. Andrews.

The matter was solved when the Vancouver event was changed to a 54-hole format played on Monday through Wednesday of Aug. 21-23.

Eric Namesnik swam the fastest 400-meter individual medley in the world this year to win in 4 minutes, 15.57 seconds night in the Phillips 66 National Championships at Pasadena, Calif.

Wayne Presley, a right wing who spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, signed with the New York Rangers.

Edward J. Manetta Jr., a former athletic director at De Paul, was named A.D. at St. John’s University.
